350+ albums on various labels feature my photography, liner notes, or both, and an even larger number of book covers and periodicals, unto the New York Times. Magazine involvements have included JAZZ (1970s) DownBeat and Swing Journal (1980s), Jazz Forum and JazzTimes (1980s-1990s), CODA (1980s-2000s) and Cadence (2012-present). Since the 1980s, I have had several jazz-related photographic exhibitions in the USA, Canada, Poland and Germany. In 1984, I won Grand Prix in the Jazz Photo International competition. My weekly radio program OPEN EAR has been both broadcast and streamed on WLUR-FM for more than a decade (presently on hiatus, but usually heard on Mondays, 3 to 5 pm, NYC time, streamed via wlur.wlu.edu)

I try to listen to what I hear, to see what I look at, to practice visual non-fiction by means of creative documentary photography, and to write clearly and concisely on subjects of consequence so as to further my quest to be, at once, an advocate, insightful observer and critic.
